Football Federation Australia (FFA) has announced that the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) with the assistance of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has provided funding for the purchase of ten Hyundai cars to deliver ALDI MiniRoos in NSW through its UEFA Assist Infrastructure Program.
The funding will provide support for the “Taking it to the Streets” program developed by Football NSW, which sees the promotion of ALDI MiniRoos football (Australia’s modified version of the game for 4 to 11-year-olds) throughout metropolitan Sydney. Ten grassroots Football Associations are the recipients of the cars.
FFA Chief Operating Officer, Mark Falvo, applauded the actions of UEFA and the AFC in growing football all over the world.
“UEFA’s efforts to support the growth of football across Asia through the UEFA Assist program is highly commendable, and we thank the AFC for enabling FFA to apply for this funding,” Falvo said.
“This will significantly influence the footballing landscape in New South Wales for our younger players and will assist in the development of our future Matildas and Socceroos.”
UEFA Assist, launched in 2017, aims to enhance football development and increase solidarity to tackle the needs of confederations and national associations outside of Europe. The main objective of the program is to share best practice and knowledge to help other confederations strengthen and develop football within their separate territories.
Football NSW Chief Executive Stuart Hodge said he was delighted to receive such support from both UEFA and the AFC.
“This will enable Football NSW to deliver more ALDI MiniRoos programs across a large area and will have a real impact for our sport,” Hodge said.
“Thank you to UEFA, AFC and FFA for giving young girls and boys in New South Wales more opportunities to participate in the sport they love.”
