Football Federation Australia (FFA) has received Expression of Interest (EOI) responses from 15 groups seeking to be granted a licence to operate a club in an expanded Hyundai A-League.
FFA Chief Executive Officer David Gallop said the high level of interest from groups wanting to invest in the Hyundai A-League was a real positive for the league and for football.
“We started this process looking forward to seeing how many groups would emerge that are genuinely interested in investing in the new clubs and growing the Hyundai A-League. As of last night we have evidence that the interest is genuine, thoughtful and committed.
“We look forward to continuing to work with these groups, the existing clubs, Member Federations and other stakeholders to make expansion a success for the whole of football.”
The submissions will be assessed over the next week to 10 days after which those meeting the EOI criteria will be invited into the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage where they will be provided with in-depth information by FFA with which to prepare more detailed proposals against strict criteria.
That process is scheduled to begin on 11 June assuming all matters pertaining to the EOI phase are completed by that time.
The intention is to announce two new clubs in October which will join the competition the following season (2019/20).
