Football West is excited to announce that competitions for the 2020 season will resume on Sunday, 21 June.

  • Smarter than Smoking Junior Girls and Boys Leagues
  • Belt Up Amateur, Metropolitan and Masters Leagues
  • State League Women
  • NPL Juniors

Then on the weekend of 4/5 July, the following will return:

  • NPL Men
  • NPL Women
  • State League Men

These seasons will finish with a grand final on the weekend of 10/11 October.

Football West CEO James Curtis said: “This is the news everyone has been waiting for.

“The WA football community has shown terrific understanding throughout this period and we are delighted to provide them with a date for our return.

“Players, coaches, parents, volunteers, referees … the one question we are constantly being asked is, ‘when will the season start?’

“It’s the same with the buzz around the training grounds and the feedback we are getting on social media. People want football competitions back and it is in sight.

“From where we were a few months ago, this is a real cause for celebration thanks to the hard work of the community by doing the right thing.

“Now it is about teams scouring the fixtures, working with local authorities and clubs to put up goals, mark out the pitch and get the teams together… there will be real anticipation that football’s coming back.”

Clubs, players, coaches, referees, officials and volunteers will be required to adhere with the relevant health and safety guidelines as part of resumption to competitions, as well as ensuring they meet the requirements from their local government or land owner.

“Our stakeholders have been working hard with relevant authorities and we know there are still many steps to go.

“We will continue to work with our Associations, clubs and relevant government authorities to comply with relevant guidelines, whilst also trying to reduce the burden on clubs and volunteers.”
