Sign up for COVID Connect or volunteer to make phone calls

We know that when we work together it makes it easier to get through tough times.

Football Australia has teamed up with Australian Red Cross to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, lending their voices to ensure we all stay connected, safe and supported during this time.

With a diverse participant base of approximately 1.96 million across the country, together we can reach more people and help ensure that no one goes through this crisis alone.

Register for COVID Connect

COVID Connect is a free service from Red Cross to provide support and community connection to people who are feeling socially isolated as a result of COVID-19, through one-off or regular phone calls with a friendly volunteer. We all know how valuable a friendly listening ear is when times are tough. If you’re feeling isolated, sign-up for a call.  If you know someone who could benefit from this service, recommend it to them and help them sign-up.

Volunteer to make calls

We are currently looking to engage volunteers. If you have a few spare hours each week, and are looking for ways to make a difference, why not sign-up to make phone calls for COVID Connect?

As a volunteer you’ll be trained and supported by Red Cross, and you can make phone calls from your home. We all know the value of having someone friendly and trusted you can chat to – this is an opportunity to make a real difference to people in your community.

How is Red Cross supporting people to cope with COVID-19?
Red Cross has been supporting Australians through emergencies for more than a century. Right now, we’re helping those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in many ways, from making wellbeing phone calls to those socially isolated, delivering food and care packages and adjusting many of our face-to-face services so that the most vulnerable in our community continue to receive support. Can anyone sign up for COVID Connect?
Yes. COVID Connect is a free service for any adult who feels they need support and social connection during this time. Note: It is not a service for people wanting assistance with their mental health or those who require assistance in a crisis.

What requirements are there to volunteer?
To protect those whom we support, we ask all volunteers to complete a National Police Check.

There are two ways to do this:

  • Provide a pre-existing National Police check certificate issued within the last 12 months OR
  • Having a National Police Check completed through Red Cross.

Full requirements, including necessary skills and more information on the National Police Check can be found in the role description.
