In the third edition of 'Spotlight On,' CommBank Young Matildas, Sarah Hunter talks about the legacy she wants to leave, when she's wearing the green and gold at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Costa Rica 2022™.
Q1: Tell us about your football journey?
A: I started when I was four years old, my older brother signed up to play football and I'd watch from the sidelines but was really eager to play. I'd go around telling everyone that I was playing, even though I wasn't even signed up, so eventually, my mum and dad put me into my brother's team where I played for a few years.
I developed a real love, passion and competitiveness for the game and now, I play for Sydney FC in the A-League Women's.
Q2: How would you describe your playing style?
A: I'm definitely very competitive and I think my teammates would agree. I want to win everything which can be annoying, because you can't win everything and that's frustrating for me. I like to think I'm a leader, who leads by example and knows how to control the game, be calm on the ball and see things not everyone would see.
Q3: How would you describe yourself off the pitch?
A: As a person, I'm really similar, I'm still very competitive off the pitch as well. I'm a really driven person who is very goal-focused.

Q4: What are your footballing goals and aspirations?
A: Playing for the Matildas is every little girl's dream and it's mine too. That's what I am aiming for, along with playing overseas. I support Chelsea so playing for them is also the dream!
Q5: What legacy do you hope to leave by representing your country on the world stage?
A: I want to help as many people as I can and make the world a better place. Hopefully what I do on the pitch can inspire people off the pitch. Whether that's through meeting young girls and boys, I just want to leave a positive mark on the community.
